How to choose a roofer after a storm (avoid chasers)
June 22, 2026 · Vlaag Roofing
The day after a big storm, your doorbell starts ringing. A lot of those knocks are out-of-town crews chasing the weather, here to do a fast job and move on to the next county. Some are fine. Plenty aren’t. Here’s how to tell the difference.
Watch for the storm-chaser playbook
Storm chasers follow a pattern. They show up right after the weather, they push hard for a signature today, and they often promise things no honest roofer can, like a guaranteed approval or a “free roof.”
Be careful with anyone who pressures you to sign on the spot, asks for big money up front, or won’t give you a written, itemized quote. Real contractors are happy to put it in writing and let you think it over.
If someone promises a specific insurance payout, that’s a red flag on its own. Nobody can promise that.
Look for local and established
The single best filter is simple: are they local, and will they be here next year?
A local Georgia roofing company with a real local address has a reputation to protect and a warranty to honor. If a leak shows up in eight months, you want someone you can actually call, not a phone number with a different area code that’s stopped answering.
Ask how long they’ve worked the area, ask to see proof of insurance, and look for reviews from actual neighbors.
Judge them by the inspection
A good roofer’s inspection tells you a lot about how they work. Do they actually get on the roof? Do they show you photos of what they found, or just hand you a scary verdict?
Honest documentation is the sign of someone who’s confident in the work and not just trying to close you. That means clear pictures, a plain explanation, and a straight answer on repair versus replacement.
That’s the standard we hold ourselves to. We inspect for free, show you exactly what we find, and let the facts make the case. Book yours here.
