Do you need to be home for a roof replacement?

This question comes up on almost every job, and it’s a fair one. A roof replacement is a big day at your house, and most people can’t just take it off work. The short answer is that you usually don’t have to be there.

Do you have to be there

Most of the work happens outside and up top, so a crew can get the whole roof done without anyone home. Plenty of our customers head to work in the morning and come back to a finished roof.

That said, it helps to be around at the start. A quick walk-through before the crew climbs up lets you point out anything specific and make sure everyone’s on the same page.

Being home at the end is nice too, so you can look over the finished work together before the crew packs up.

What the crew needs to get in

The main thing is access to the driveway and the area around the house. Crews need room to set up, unload materials, and position a dumpster or trailer for the old shingles.

Clear cars out of the driveway and away from the edge of the house the night before. Falling debris and nails around the perimeter are normal during a tear-off, and you don’t want your car parked in that zone.

If a gate needs to be unlocked or the crew needs to reach the backyard, let us know ahead of time so nothing holds up the day.

Pets, updates, and how the day goes

Roofing days are loud. Hammering, footsteps overhead, and debris hitting the ground can rattle pets, so plan to keep them inside in a quiet room or somewhere off-site.

You’ll be kept in the loop whether or not you’re home. We check in before we start and let you know when we’re wrapping up, and you can reach your point of contact through the day if anything comes up.
